AT&T becomes largest WiFi hotspot

November 7th, 2008 by Allie

AT&T has recently decided to become the world’s largest WiFi provider! They’ve recently taken the measures needed to achieve that goal. AT&T has spent over $275 million to buy out Wayport, an 11 year old network provider that started out in hotel rooms and eventually developed into a WiFi provider for over 10,000 McDonalds.

By making this move, there will be less pressure on the 3G network, thus providing a more reliable cell phone signal and faster internet speeds.

All BlackJack II Users!

September 4th, 2008 by Allie

Samsung has released a software upgrade for the SGH-i617 (BlackJack II) which is recommended to be installed. This update includes numerous software enhancements as well as an upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.1. On average, the update takes between 10-15 minutes to complete if your system is already set up.

The following enhancements are included in the Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 Update:

- New Look & Feel
The easy-to-use Sliding Panel homescreen allows you quick access to your
BlackJack II primary functions by simply sliding vertically and horizontally
through the homescreen panels.

- Improved GPS Navigation
With AT&T Navigator and assisted-GPS, the BlackJackII leverages both
satellite and cellular technology to get you to your destination on time.

- Threaded SMS Messaging
Rather than seeing a stand-alone response when you open an SMS message,
you’ll view the details of your entire conversation.

- Internet Connection Sharing
Utilize your smartphone capabilities by using your phone as a high-speed
wireless modem for your laptop. It’s easy to set up and even easier to
connect. Just click and go!

- Mobile Banking
Perform secure banking transaction with many of the nation’s largest banks
right from your phone!

- Voice Command
Voice Command transforms your BlackJack II into your own virtual personal
assistant, letting you use your voice to look up contacts, make phone
calls, get calendar info., and play and control your music, as well as
start programs.

Smart Limits

July 17th, 2008 by Allie

Parents! Tired of being shocked by your childrens’ cell phone usage, whether it be minutes, texting, or media?

Here’s a new service that enables you to set those boundaries so you can avoid those monthly surprises for only $4.99/month per line!

AT&T Smart Limits for Wireless allows you to determine specifically how and when your child can use the phone. You can set limits for:

-Number of text and instant messages

-Dollar amount of downloadable purchases (ringtones, games & more)

-Times of day the phone can be used for messaging, browsing, and outbound calling

- Who the phone can call or text (incoming and outgoing) by blocking or allowing certain numbers

- The access of content inappropriate for children

As your child approaches their given limits, he/she will receive an advance warning. Once the limit is reached, a notification will be sent to the phone that the action is restricted and the service will be stopped until the next billing cycle begins.

* This product cannot currently be used to set specific monthly limits for minutes. All incoming calls are allowed at all times except from numbers you designate as “Blocked Numbers.”

Come visit any of our 6 locations if you have any additional questions!

GVENT

July 11th, 2008 by Allie

Google Calendar users..This ones for you!

If you didn’t already know… Google has this lovely phone-friendly feature called GVENT.

GVENT is an SMS feature that comes with Google Calendar. If, for example, you can’t remember when, what time, and where your next meeting is, you’re away from your computer and don’t feel like logging onto your Gmail account on your phone, all you have to do is text “next” to GVENT (dial 48368) and you’ll get back the time and details of your next scheduled event.

There are other tricks that you can use… If you want to know your whole day’s appointments, text “day” to GVENT (dial 48368) and you will receive your entire day’s appointments. You can also text “nday” for tomorrow’s appointments.

Finally, the coolest feature about GVENT is that you can type a detailed appointment into your phone and text it to GVENT to be added to your Google Calendar. For example, “Lunch with Cindy at Silver Peak tomorrow at noon.” Text it to GVENT (dial 48368) and it will be added immediately.

Before you start using GVENT, you must configure it for use with your phone. In your Google Calendar, click the Settings link, then choose Mobile Setup. Follow the simple instructions, and you’re set to go!
